Our Theology

What is Theology?

The term doctrine may be the most misunderstood term due to polarized parties fighting over its place within church context. We believe that part of Kerygma’s role is to relieve the myths connected to this word. Doctrines are beliefs based upon evidence and experience that will impact strategy, structure, and finances. Everyone has doctrines, for these are beliefs that guide a person’s or group’s actions. We believe that doctrine will not divide our city but instead guide Kerygma’s decisions as we plant a great church in Austin, Texas.

Affirmation Statement:

Kerygma is a Bible-based church. We seek to build our beliefs and base our lifestyle on explicit passages of the Bible and its principles.

The Bible

The message of the Bible is the infallible Word of God. It is the authority for salvation and Christian living (2 Timothy 3:15-17).

God

There is one God who has revealed Himself as our Father; in His son, Jesus Christ; and as the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is God manifested in flesh. He is both God and man (Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:4-6; Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 3:16).

Sin

Everyone has sinned and is in need of salvation. Sin is the state of not living as we were created
(I Corinthians 15:42-58; Romans 3:23-25, 6:23).

The Gospel

The Gospel means the “good news” that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Kerygma, to the early Christians, meant to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. We obey the gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:8; 1 Peter 4:17) by an initial and continued lifestyle of repentance (a change of worldview or death to sin), water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ (burial to our sin), receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (resurrection) (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 2:4, 37-39; Romans 6:3-4), and living a life of continual repentance.

Salvation

Salvation comes by grace through faith based on the reconciling sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:23-25; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Christian Living

As Christians, we are to love God and all people in Austin. All are welcome and provided respect at Kerygma, for this is the call of God. We are called to live a holy life both inwardly and outwardly and worship God in all aspects of our life (Mark 12:28-31; Hebrews 12:14).

Spiritual Gifts

We believe that supernatural gifts of the Spirit, including healing, are for the church today (1 Corinthians 12:8-10).

The Future

We believe that Jesus Christ is coming again to catch away His church. In the end will be the final resurrection and the final judgment. The righteous will inherit eternal life and the unrighteous, eternal death (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:11-15).
